There’s a secret that entrepreneurs know but most people have yet to discover. When you are passionate about your work, it doesn’t feel like work at all. Likewise, when you attempt to work at something that is not in line with whatever it is that you are passionate about, well, that can be grueling. Those who choose the latter path will soon find that they suffer from dissatisfaction, burnout, stress, and even poor health.
Just think about it. If you are passionate about animal rights but you work at a leather factory or a slaughterhouse, chances are you will hate your job. When you hate your job, that career related dissatisfaction has a way of seeping into every area of your life. When you hate what you do for a living, you run the risk of hating your entire life.
If you find yourself stuck in a job that you hate, and if you find yourself questioning the circumstances and decisions that got you where you are today, perhaps it’s time to take stock and do a sort of life inventory to figure out where you went wrong and what you can do to get yourself back on track. One of the most important elements of any life inventory is asking yourself a single, simple question: Am I living my passion?
If you ask yourself this question and soon discover that the answer is a resounding “No,” then it’s time to reevaluate your priorities and get back on the path to living your passion. Some people, however, are unable to answer this simple but all-important question with a Yes or a No because they have yet to identify a passion or passions to live by. If you fall into this category, then it’s time to do some additional soul searching to discover your passion.
